"MARITIME MOBILE" RADIO NETS FOR CRUISERS
Times and frequencies - SSB and Amateur Radio (Ham)

Marine radio or 'maritime mobile' is the most effective means of communication at sea with ham HF (amateur radio) and SSB marine frequencies used for long range and VHF for contact up to about 20 miles. Marine radio nets are set up by controllers all over the world (Indian Ocean, Atlantic, Mediterranean, Pacific, etc.) to handle and co-ordinate this traffic from vessels sailing the oceans. It is important for cruising yachts to know these radio net frequencies and times so as to pass message traffic, log positions, receive weather information, etc. I have listed a few important nets below for circumnavigating cruisers.   • Mediteranian Maritime Mobile Net.  Med.  7.085Mhz @ 0700hrs zulu
  • U.K. M/M Net.  U.K. Covers UK waters, Med & Atlantic.  14.303+/- QRMhz @ 0800hrs zulu & 1800hrs zulu. 
  • TransAtlantic Maritime Mobile Net. Covers the Med, N & S Atlantic and Caribbean. 21.400Mhz @ 1300hrs zulu.
  • German Maritime Mobile Net. Covers the Atlantic, Pacific, Indian Ocean, Med, (worldwide). Ham, Echolink & Winlink. 14.313kMhz @ 1630hrs zulu. www.intermar-ev.de 
  • Mississauga Maritime Net. VE stations with relays. Covers Europe, Med, Atlantic, Caribbean and Central America.  14.122.5 Mcs @ 1245hrs zulu. 365 days a year!
  • Mobile Maritime Net - South East Asian Waters.  Covers Japan to Seychelles - Hong Kong to Northern & Western Australia. (Specifically: Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia, Northern Australia, Thailand, Sri Lanka, The Andamans & Nicobars, Chagos). 14.323Mhz @ 0025hrs zulu. At 0055hrs, Wx forecasts are relayed. Lots of local yachting traffic.
  • Tony's Net.  Kenya. Covers Indian Ocean & Red Sea. 14.316hz - SILENT KEY.
  • South Africa Maritime Mobile Net. S Africa. Covers Indian Ocean & S Atlantic. 14.316Mhz & moves to 7.045Mhz @ 0630hrs and also @ 1130hrs (both frequencies)
  • Radio "Peri-Peri".  East Africa. Covers Indian Ocean & S Atlantic. 8.101Mhz @ 0500hrs zulu (weather) & then 12.353hz after the weather. Again (both freqs) @ 1500hrs zulu.
  • Italian M/M Net. (Italian & English). Wx forecasts for east & north Atlantic and south Atlantic between Africa and Brazil. 14.297Mhz @ 2000hrs zulu (1900hrs zulu between 30 March & 20 October). (IK6IJF)
  • 'Le Reseau Du Capitaine' Net. Montreal, Canada. (Most operators are bilingual). Covers Atlantic, Caribbean & Pacific.  14.118Mhz @ 0700 hrs Montreal time and 1830hrs Montreal time for Wx reports & emergency traffic.
  • Caribbean M/M Net. Saint Croix.  Covers the Caribbean. 7.241Mhz @ 1100hrs zulu.
  • Maritime Mobile Service Net.  Covers the Atlantic from Cape Town to Greenland, the Eastern Pacific and the Gulf of Mexico.  14.300Mhz @ 1700hrs zulu till 0200hrs zulu during winter and during the summer from 1600 hrs z to 0200hrs zulu.
  • Northwest Caribbean Cruiser's Net.  Covers from Mexico to San Andres Island, Colombia.  8.188Mhz @ 1400hrs zulu.
  • Cruiseheimer's Net.  Covers US East coast & through Eastern Caribbean.  8.152Mhz @ 0830hrs Eastern time USA.
  • Herb Hilgenberg's Southbound ll Net.  Detailed Wx forecasts for Atlantic & Caribbean cruisers - reaches into Pacific later in the broadcast.  12.359Mhz [SSB] @ 2000hrs zulu (check-ins start 1930hrszulu).
  • Panama Canal Connection Net.  Covers Pacific from Mexico to Galapagos and the Atlantic from Belize to Colombia. Emphasis is on SW Caribbean.
  • Manana M/M Net.  Covers US West coast to Hawaii.  14.340Mhz @ 1200hrs PDT.
  • PST Baja California M/M Net.  Covers coastal Baja & California.  7.238Mhz @ 0800hrs PDT.
  • MARITIME EMERGENCY NET.  14.340Mhz @ 0400hrs zulu and 1800hrs zulu.
  • Chubasco Net.  Covers Mexico West coast.  7.294Mhz @ 1530hrs ST / 1430hrs DST.
  • Waterway Radio & Cruising Club (WRCC).  7.268Mhz @ 0745 EST.
  • Pacific Inter-Island Net.  Covers Micronesia & up to Hawaii - daily roll-call.  14.315Mhz @ 0800hrs zulu.
  • Pacific Seafarers Net.  Covers the Pacific.  14.300Mhz @ 0300hrs (warm up) - 0325hrs zulu - roll-call.
  • Pacific Maritime Mobile Service Net.  Covers Pacific/worldwide.  21.412Mhz @ 2200hrs zulu (2130hrs 'early-bird').
  • Roy's Net.  Perth, W.Australia. Wx warnings & then covers boats in N & W Indian Ocean.  14.320Mhz  @ 1115hrs zulu. At 1130hrs zulu moves to S.Africa M/M net on 14.316hz.
  • Robby's Net.  Australia.  14.315Mhz @ 1000hrs zulu and 2300hrs zulu.
  • Comedy Net.  Oz - Southwest Pacific. Very informal, multi-purpose with position reports, Wx reports and local inter-yacht traffic. Net control rotates amongst members and has many shore-based regulars who help with local knowledge.  7.087Mhz @ 2040hrs zulu.
  • Tony's Net.  New Zealand (ZL1ATE). Position reports from South Pacific & Australia region (weather contact vk9ja).  14.315Mhz @ 2100hrs zulu.
  • Russell Radio.  (SSB) New Zealand. Covers Bora Bora to Australia.  12.359Mhz @ 0830hrs & 1630hrs zulu.
