sv Khulula - the yacht.

Khulula is a Colin Archer (type) steel cutter, built in 1984 in Western Australia for a marine biologist who sailed the Southern Oceans in her.  She is 50ft overall, a beam of 4.2m and flush decks which gives us cavernous accommodation below. (see more photos)

The present layout is:

Focsle cabin with 2 large singles and standing room and plenty of storage.

The mid-ships cabin has a double berth with the heads directly opposite.

The saloon area has a double berth and a further single on the saloon settee opposite.

Our cabin is aft and separated from the rest of the boat by the large galley and navigation station.

The interior is completely fitted out in hardwood, with full standing room throughout.

The main sail is fully battened and the Genoa is roller furling.  The staysail is hank-on.

The engine is a Cummins 4B 3.9m, 80hp and fuel tanks have a capacity of 600 litres.  Water tanks capacity is 1000 litres.

We keep our electronic equipment to the minimum, but carry 2 x GPS, 2 x VHF, Sounder and log.

We carry full safety equipment for 6 people and extensive medical kit.

RECENT IMPROVEMENTS - 2001

Outside dining on KhululaOutside dining!  Graeme has now built a wonderful dark and light teak dining table which seats up to 8 people comfortably.  Situated on the aft deck it has now become the social center of the boat.

To free the aft deck area, we have organised the gas storage and solar panel mounting (which now gives us enough power to allow for small fans for all the berths)
